LL Cool P showed up late for his "I really care about the help those less fortunate than I" photo op this weekend. Those who were there to eat, had eaten, and the kitchen was closed, having been all cleaned up.
No problem! Ryan lined up the photographers and the beat writers, and he and his wife promptly washed perfectly clean dishes just so everyone would know what a real empathetic, sweetheart of a guy he was.
And the press went along with it.
Man, Armando Iannuci and his crack writing team -- the folks behind In the Loop, The Thick of It, and Veep -- have got to be kicking themselves right now, "Why didn't we think of that?!"
Oh, I am sorry, they already did write something like this for their fro-yo episode of Veep! I think the Mittens/LL Cool P campaign is suffering from the usual and expected Conservative Inability to Recognize Irony -- which is one of the greatest tests of intelligence -- and are now taking clues from Selina Meyer's team on how to run a campaign.
That this OEE is even remotely close right now says a lot about our electorate. Ugh!

On a completely different -- and much happier -- note, Treme keeps chugging along. We got to see Sugar Boy Crawford last night, who just passed away last month. And, it was great to see Marcia Ball, too. She looks and sounds fantastic, still.
So, here's a video of her:
Mwah, ...
P.S. Special thanks to Pnut for part of this post.
Last night. It is an American version of The Thick of It, with all the bungles, swearing, and incompetence. And I thought they made the switch across the pond seem seamless. And, it is just going to get even better. A lot of people were probably scratching their heads. They are not familiar with these In the Loop/The Thick of It guys. It will grow on folks, and should prob be a cult-y sort of hit for HBO.
Mark my words, most of the lefty political blogs that are bitching about Veep now, will be posting scenes and quips from it themselves in a few months from now.
I had nothing to fear, after all. Veep is going to be one of my all-time faves. (And Sorkin's new show, The Newsroom, happening in June, looks dynamite, too. HBO are Kings. But when do we get the third season of Treme?)
Fantastic Mildred Pierce get a bushelful of nominations for this year's Emmys, it is hard to take the Emmys seriously, considering that Treme did not get a single nomination and The Wire never won one, either.
Y'know, I get just as much red lipstick and nylons watching Miss Marple (and a much better story, to boot.)
But, hey, Katrina, NOLA, that's so mid-aughts. Who gives a care about those folks anymore, really?
Meanwhile, there are a passel of new programs coming your way this season, set in the early sixties, when it was okay to say, Negro; fire women when they got pregnant; and smoke in your office. Sweet!
Hey, I like bright red lipstick and nylons as much as any red-blooded, straight (or gay) American Dude around, but, for crying out loud, that show is soooo overrated.
And now we are going to get a dozen more or so just like it (but none as good.)
(Yeah, yeah, I know, I am no fun. I did not Sex and the City, either.)
Goodbye to Treme for at least a year. HBO signed on for a third year but the ratings have not been very good, despite the excellent Game of Thrones lead-in.
Still, I expect that David Simon's cache should be enough to let him see his way to a proper conclusion of the series. At least, I hope so.
The second season has been better than the first and I think hit its peak about halfway through. It stalled a little bit then unloaded an absolute Masterpiece Mardi Gras episode and has then been getting just a tad bit gushy and sentimental in the last couple of episodes regarding two arcs in the same family.
I would like to throw out some heavy props to two of the actresses in the series: Foul mouthed Oscar winner, Melissa Leo keeps showing the world what an amazing talent she is and Khandi Alexander, who has been severely under-appreciated her whole career, are both absolute joys to live with every week.
Yup, that is where Larry "Wide Stance" Craig was busted.
Ensign resigning. Because as you probably know GOP "public" servants never resign. See "Diaper" David Vitter or Larry "Wide Stance" Craig, for instance.
Anyhoo, the CW is that the GOP Gov will appoint a US Rep named Heller to take Ensign's place until the election next year. But why would not the Gov appoint "2nd Amendment Remedies" Sharron Angle to the post? My gosh, it would be a travesty, but the GOP really does not care anymore. They want to please their Overlords, keep the checks coming in, keep their jobs, and above all, see (and help) Obama to fail, in spite of the nation's well-being and health.

Hilarious to see four GOP Govs (incl Gubner "Secession" Haircut from Texas) scream bloody murder about federal money but then do some crafty bookkeeping and plead for the money, after all. Pathetic.

My buddy, Nick C, does this game sometimes where he asks all his co-workers a "Question For the Day."
Today's question was, "Knowing the Desperado guy in Seinfeld, what is your personal Desperado Song in your life?" Nick's was In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel, Yvonne's was Fanfare for the Common Man, and mine is a tie between two Cheater Slicks songs: Dignity and Grace and Refried Dreams.

No need to panic but the Rangers are scuffling a bit after their fantastic 6-0 start. Bullpen is a problem, Colby has not looked sharp, at all, and a large portion of the lineup is slumping. Like I said, no reason to panic. We got a long way to go. Props to Matty Harrison, he looks like he has finally figured it out. He's going to be a solid 3-4-5 rotation kind of guy.
Speaking of Colby Lewis, Colby was the first MLB player in history to take the newly instituted three day Paternity Leave. Of course, there was some yahoo, redneck Texas idiot sportscaster who took umbrage with this, stating that Colby should either plan his wife's pregnancies better or just pitch anyway. Some things never change in that part of the world.

Treme Season Two starts on Sunday. Renee and I are psyched. I'll keep you up-to-date without spoiling anything and refer to the excellent Back of Town NOLA/Treme Series blog when needed.

We have a v cute little Rock Star working with us right now. You can buy his songs on the iTunes, even! (Dylan Fox and the Wave.) Anyhoo, he worships the White Stripes and he is a Facebook friendie and so I pointed out the posting I did of that Rep scolding the GOP during the recent budget debate, quoting the White Stripes. He thought it was pretty cool.
Then today he said that I was ahead of the curve cause now, a couple of weeks later that same posting is showing up on all the indie-music blogs.
I said, Those kids just do not read political blogs.
