Have created a euphemism for film/teevee actors that have not worked in a while (most prob due to drug dependence or being difficult to work with issues), we say that the actor in question is doing "theatre."

Carey Mulligan's latest film, Drive, is premiering at Cannes just now but Ms Mulligan is not hitting the red carpet there.  That is because she is starring in Through a Glass Darkly off-Broadway at the Atlantic Theatre.

She did an interview recently where she stated plainly she did not want to be just a body to hang couture upon.

She really does do "theatre."
